In 1898, According to the UPI, Guglielmo Marconi was awarded a patent for wireless telegraphy, the radio. Marconiʹs site *claims* he filed in 1896, in England. No date on when it was awarded. Tesla filed in 1897, in the U.S. as thatʹs where he was living. Tesla was awarded the U.S. patent in 1900, magically had it rescinded, then restored just after his death.
